Angeles National Golf Club
The Angeles National Golf Club, built in 2004, is one of the newer golf courses in Los Angeles, and one that provides a substantial challenge to its golfers. This desert style course sits at the mouth of the Tujunga Canyon, with beautiful hills rising up on both sides of the course. While some noise can be heard from the interstate, it certainly won’t interfere with your picturesque game.
Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort
The Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort offers 36 holes on 650 acres of lush greenery. You can choose between two different courses, the Eisenhower (the Ike) or the Zaharias (Babe). The Eisenhower, designed by William Bell and Casey O’Callaghan, stretches from 5,662 yards to 7,211 depending upon the tees you choose, and attracts golfers from all over the world. The Zaharias course is named after Babe Didrickson Zaharias, one of the world’s greatest female athletes of the first half of the 20th century. This course stretches from 5,363 yards to 6,821 yards and is an excellent play for golfers of all skill levels.
Rustic Canyon Golf Course
Designed by Gil Hanse and Geoff Shackelford, and opened in 2002, the Rustic Canyon Golf Course in Moorpark, CA is a course that features a minimalist design. The course stays true to the land, taking advantage of the existing sagebrush, cacti, and stipa grass in the secluded canyon. Wide fairways and natural bunkers provide a sufficient challenge to golfers and the bump and run style of the greens is reminiscent of those you might find in in links courses in Ireland or Scotland. Rustic Canyon has been on the Top 5 Rated Golf Courses in California and is regularly found on top 100 lists, including Golf Digest.
Los Verdes Golf Club
Los Verdes Golf Club, found in Rancho Palos Verde, CA, is a beautiful course designed by William F. Bell. Built in 1964, this course offers incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. Many would argue that these views are some of the best that California has to offer. Spanning 6,617 yards, this open layout golf course provides numerous elevation changes that can make putting a challenge. The most challenging hole by far is the fourth, which curves right along the cliffs of the ocean. Los Verdes also features a newly renovated driving range and two putting greens, providing you with plenty of opportunities to practice.
Sand Canyon Country Club
Located near the Angeles National Forest, Sand Canyon Country Club is a public course that plays just like a private one. Designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and Ted Robinson, Jr., Sand Canyon opened in 2000 and was voted Best Greens in Los Angeles County. The 27-hole course is easily one of California’s must-visit golf destinations. In addition to a one of a kind golf experience, there is also a 25,000 square foot clubhouse that houses a full golf shop, a delicious fine dining restaurant, a banquet hall, a terrace lounge and more. There is also a putting green and a driving range so that you can practice before you hit the course.
Trump National Golf Club
Just 30 minutes south of LAX and perched atop the California cliffs, the Trump National Golf Club offers some of the most amazing views you could ever hope to find. Designed by Pete Dye, this course is well known for being one of the most expensive ever built. It features massive bunkers, large lakes, and incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. Offering both challenges for experienced golfers as well as beginners, this course is one that won’t soon be forgotten. A testament to greatness, Trump National has received numerous awards, including “Top 50 Courses in California,” “Best Golf Course in California,” and “Top 50 Courses in America.”
Wilson Golf Course
Built in 1923, the Wilson Golf Course at Griffith Park is almost 7,000 yards long. Sitting in a forest-like area, this golf course features wide, gently sloping fairways. This beautiful golf course also features a rather impressive event space that is perfect for hosting parties, corporate events and more. Centrally located to just about anywhere in the Los Angeles area and with scenic views this makes Wilson Golf Course a must play golf course.
Rancho Park Golf Course
The Rancho Park Golf Course is an 18-hole course that has hosted a number of Los Angeles Open, PGA Senior Open and LPGA tour golf events. With 6,630 yards, this golf course offers a challenge to more seasoned players, and requires a good deal of skill to play through. If you’re looking for a challenge, this course may be the one for you.
