1. Torrey Pines Golf Course

Arguably one of the most popular golf courses in San Diego is the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Sitting just 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego, Torrey Pines sits on the bluffs of Torrey Pines State Park. It consists of two golf courses, Torrey Pines North and Torrey Pines South. These courses are known for both prestige and for beauty, with spectacular views of the ocean while you play.

2. Carmel Mountain Ranch Golf Course

The Carmel Mountain Ranch Golf Course is a truly unique experience in San Diego. Located just 25 minutes outside of downtown, it is one of the highest rated semi-private golf clubs in the San Diego area. A desert landscape sits surrounded by magnificent views of both mountains as well as valleys. The course, designed by Ron Fream, features rolling terrains, winding layouts, streams and natural boulders. 3. Omni La Costa Resort and Spa

4. The Grand Golf Club

A part of the Farmont Grand Del Mar Resort in northern San Diego, the Grand Golf Club takes up about 350 of the total 400 acres of property. The golf course, which measures 7,160 yards, is a Tom Fazio design. With the beautiful scenery of the Los Peñasquitos Canyon, he created a magnificent 18-hole course with dramatic elevations and diverse bunkering. The course offers a good challenge, with one of the toughest holes being the par-3 seventeenth hole. It can play as long as almost 250 yards over water. You end the course with quite a sight as well. The par-4 hole plays around and over a stream and ends with a waterfall.

5. Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course

The Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course is an 18-hole course that originally opened in 1962. While it features a traditional layout, there are plenty of challenges on this 6,631 yard course, including water features and bunkers, which are sure to keep you on your toes. The course also features a putting green, professional golf instruction, golf tournament services, a complete golf shop and plenty of delicious restaurants. Golfers from all over have sought out this course for a truly enjoyable round of golf.

6. Oaks North Golf Club

Oaks North Golf Club is a 27-hole course that features three different nines, each with a par-30. The yardages for each nine is fairly short, ranging from 3,417 yards to 3,608 yards, and are easily walkable. While shorter in distance, they are certainly not short on challenges. Located in San Diego, the nines each offer their own characteristic challenges, and this course is well known to golfers in the area. The course is lined with oak trees, and many of the greens are surrounded by water features. The atmosphere at this course is friendly, and golfers of all kinds are welcome, including families. In fact, the course regularly has programs throughout the year for golfers of all levels.

7. Balboa Park Golf Course

Located just minutes from the San Diego Convention Center and the downtown hotels, the Balboa Park Golf Course is the closet course to downtown San Diego. It is also San Diego’s oldest golf course. With beautiful views of the city, as well as gorgeous views of Balboa Park, Point Loma and the ocean, this course provides a wonderful challenge to those in search of one.

8. Maderas Golf Course

If you are looking for something a little different from the ocean, try the Maderas Golf Course. This canyon course surrounds you with desert atmosphere. While you are away from the ocean, this course offers three lakes and five waterfalls. While a public course, Maderas boasts a private club feel, and is listed in Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 greatest public golf courses.

9. Coronado Golf Course

The Coronado Golf Course also offers waterfront views, but the views are entirely different than the ones you will find at Torrey Pines. Both busy and picturesque, you will see plenty of boats go by while you play along with navy planes and helicopters above. Located close to the downtown area of San Diego, you will have amazing views of the bay, the marina and the San Diego skyline.

10. Steele Canyon Golf Club

Steele Canyon Golf Course, located in San Diego, is only one of three San Diego County golf courses to have been awarded a prestigious Four-Star rating from Golf Digest. Designed by Gary Player, this 27-hole golf course, divided up into three nines, spans 6,781 yards. Each of the nines offers its own distinct environment. The Canyon course is rugged with beautiful elevations. The Ranch course offers fairways that wind through the fields an actual working ranch. The Vineyard course at the valley floor offers gorgeous woodlands, streams, and a working vineyard. All of the nines can be enjoyed by golfers of all levels. Along with the 27-holes, the course also offers a large clubhouse complete with a bar and restaurant as well as a golf shop, a driving range with 20 stations, and a practice putting green. It is truly one of San Diego’s finest golf courses.
